JoAnn Painter

JoAnn Painter, 82, passed away Saturday September 12, 2026, at her home in Camp Hill, PA. Born on June 8, 1944 in Carlisle, PA, to the late Lester and Helen (Fetterhoff) Kuntz,she spent most of her life in New Cumberland, and had recently moved with her daughter to Camp Hill.

Ms. Painter was a graduate of Cedar Cliff High School, class of 1962. She retired after working 27 years at the Susquehanna River Basin Commission as an Administrative Specialist.

She was active in a number of organizations throughout her life. A member of St Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Cumberland, serving as a member of the council, singing in the choir, ushering, and working on various other committees; Past President of the New Cumberland Jr Women’s Club; troop leader for Girl Scouts of America; and member of the American Legion Auxiliary. In Masonic organizations, she served as a 50+ year member of Eastern Star, Steadfast and Old Bel Aire chapters; member of Amaranth; Mother Advisor for Rainbow for Girls Assembly #59; Associate Bethel Guardian for Job’s Daughters Bethel #19; Past Worthy High Priestess for Bethany (now Sychar) Shrine of the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem; and Supreme Worthy Scribe of Supreme White Shrine. Over the years she was active in the community as an Avon Lady: helped start the Benjamin House Library; and was awarded “Garden of the Week” several times.

In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, spending time with family and friends, travelling, and her cats. Always up for an adventure, she was constantly on the go.

Surviving are her daughter Anita J Painter (aka Bobbi Marks) of Camp Hill, PA; sister Deborah McElhaney of Franklin, PA; brother John Kuntz of Lewisberry, PA; several nieces and nephews; and her grand-dog Jagger. She is preceded in death by her husband Robert Painter, now reunited in Heaven having a dance and eating a great meal together.

Services will be held Saturday October 3rd, 2026 at St Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 530 Bridge Street, New Cumberland, PA 17070. Visitation at 10am, service at 11am, and a luncheon immediately afterward.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, or the Humane Society of Harrisburg area.
