John H. Jones, a cherished husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away on May 22, 2026, at the age of 70. Born on August 31, 1955, to the late Dorothy (Gomb) Jones and John Jones in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, John lived a life full of passion and creativity, leaving a memorable mark on all who knew him.
John graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree and devoted his career to the field of Information Technology, serving as an IT Engineer and Systems Manager at Electronic Data Systems and later at HP. John had a natural ability to make connections with all those he worked with.
Beyond his professional achievements, John was a gifted writer and self-published author whose love for storytelling inspired many. He also found joy in woodworking, building spirit houses, and creating lasting memories for his loved ones. An animal lover at heart, John shared his home with four adored golden retrievers over the years, whose companionship brought him and his family so much happiness.
A social butterfly, John was the life of any party. Whether having backyard get-togethers, telling stories, sharing his love of music, or spending time with his friends and family, he brought warmth and cheerfulness to every gathering.
John lived life to the fullest, which included traveling and sailing around the world with his friends. He loved the beach - specifically Ocean City, MD - where he could ride the waves and spend hours on the ocean in his boat. John had a profound appreciation for the simple pleasures in life, including making trips to local markets where he indulged his love for cooking and finding ingredients for making his favorite pepper relish.
John was a member of the Mechanicsburg Men’s Club, American Legion, and Writers Guild. He was in charge of the EDS Golf League for over 15 years. Some of his favorite past times were spending Monday nights at the Mechanicsburg Club with his good buddies, watching and going to Phillies games, going to local concerts and listening to live music, and playing corn hole on Thursday nights with his family and friends. John had a close group of friends from grade school and high school with whom he cherished spending time with and laughing the night away.
John leaves behind his beloved wife, Diane (Zeigler) Jones, his adoring daughter, Lauren (Nick Smith) Jones, and his devoted son, John Thomas Jones. He is also survived by his brother Richard (Lynn) Jones, sister Ann (Ron) Trombetta, and brother Robert Jones. He eagerly awaited the birth of his first grandson, Nicholas Smith. His legacy of kindness, creativity, and love for life will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.
