Judy A. Hawley, 71, of New Cumberland, had her life cut short and died of complications from ALS on March 4, 2023, at Messiah Lifeways, Upper Allen Twp. She was diagnosed with ALS on July 19, 2022, and after a valiant struggle at home, Penn State Hershey Medical Center and finally Messiah, she succumbed to the deadly disease.
Born on December 8, 1951, in Mechanicsburg, she was the daughter of Kenneth and Jean (Fetterman) Taylor of Messiah Lifeways, Mechanicsburg.
Surviving are her husband of 48 years, Kenneth Hawley of New Cumberland; a daughter, Kimberly Barto of Camp Hill; a son Dr. Steven Hawley and his wife Theresa of Cogan Station; a brother Michael Taylor and his wife Stephanie of Mechanicsburg; five grandchildren, Chloe, Ryan, Anna, Luke and Grace.
Judy graduated from Cedar Cliff High School, H.A.C.C. (where she met her husband), and Temple University School of Pharmacy. She worked as a pharmacist for over 40 years and retired from UPMC Pinnacle Health in Harrisburg.
Judy was involved in all facets of her children’s lives as they grew up. She volunteered to help in the classrooms at St. Theresa School many times while her children attended the school. Both children were involved in athletics from the time they were five years old, and Judy never missed a game or meet. She helped them with their schoolwork every night and then continued the same practice with her granddaughter some years later. She even helped her granddaughter with her piano lessons for the last year.
Once the children graduated from high school, Judy and her husband Ken, got the travel bug. They visited countries around the world including many countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, Mexico, and Latin America. Their favorite yearly visit was to the islands in the Caribbean including Aruba, Dominican Republic, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. They enjoyed sunning themselves on the white sands and swimming in the clear island waters.
A funeral mass will be held 11 AM on Tuesday, March 14, at St. Theresa Catholic Church on Bridge Street in New Cumberland, with the Revs. J. Michael McFadden and Kyle Sahd concelebrating. Interment will be at Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, East Hanover Twp. Visitation will be held 9:30 to 10:30 AM Tuesday in Parthemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, New Cumberland.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Theresa School, 1300 Bridge Street, New Cumberland, PA 17070, where both of her children received an excellent education.
