Judy M. Ferraro

August 9, 1937 — April 22, 2024

Mechanicsburg, PA

Judy M. Ferraro, 86, recently of Mechanicsburg, PA, formerly lifelong resident of Scranton, PA, passed away in the early hours of Monday, April 22, 2024 at UPMC Harrisburg Hospital. She was the youngest of three children, born on August 9, 1937, to the late Louis and Maria (Gallo) Tunis.

Growing up in Lackawanna County, she was a 1955 graduate of Scranton Technical High School and was head twirler and Indian her senior year. Upon graduation, Judy would work at Prudential Insurance, where she carried out office duties and clerical responsibilities. Stepping away from her career after having children in the 1960s and early 70s, she resumed working in 1977 for Interstate Trucking as an office administrator. A few years later, she transitioned to keypunch operator with Richard M. Walsh Associates (‘80-89) before embarking on a 32-year career with (the former) Emery Worldwide, Dunmore. She administered freight billing services throughout her tenure and worked through the company’s merger with UPS. A hard worker all her life, Judy would retire in 2021 at age 84.

Outside of work, Judy was a very supportive mother and loved nothing more than watching her children grow; she talked about them all the time, and it brought her joy to see them become successful adults. She checked in on them regularly, always inquiring as to what they were eating, where they were going, and how their lives were evolving.

Judy was someone who insisted on looking her best each and every day, with her hair and nails done on a weekly basis. She was a talented piano player all her life and a very gentle soul. Upon retirement, she would move closer to her children in Mechanicsburg. Though her time in South Central PA was all too brief, her family cherished every minute together.

Surviving Judy are her children, Lisa M. Kazmerick (Michael J.) of Mechanicsburg, PA, and Frank Ferraro of Clearwater, FL; a sister, Justine Towers of Dickson City, PA; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Louis Tunis.

A public graveside service will be held at 10:30AM on Saturday, June 29, 2024 in Dunmore Cemetery, 400 Church Street, Dunmore, PA 18512.
