Kevin Scott Roof

Kevin S. Roof, 65, of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, passed away on April 22, 2024 in Mechanicsburg, PA. He was born on June 14, 1958 in Harrisburg, PA to Erdman and Suzanne (Snyder) Roof. He graduated from Red Land Senior High School, Class of 1976, and continued onto both Temple University and York College.

It is sentimental that Kevin passed away on Earth Day as Kevin loved spending time outdoors. His first career was in landscaping. He began working at Brickman Industry after graduating from Temple and then went on to start his own business, Apple Blossom Landscaping, in his early 30s. He found the outdoors very therapeutic and soothing. 

In June 1999, Kevin joined his brother at the start-up investment management firm, Roof Advisory Group, where he was Chief Operating Officer for over twenty years. He was an essential professional partner in growing the firm into a perennial national ‘Best Practices’ award winner which Investment News labeled as “one of the top-performing and most well-run firms in the industry.” Later, after its sale, Kevin helped guide the successful transition of that business to Fort Pitt Capital.

Kevin’s primary focus, however, was his family. His family was his world. When his daughter, Jacquelyn, was younger, he would do her hair in the morning prior to school. He also packed her lunch every day. He rallied for his daughter during sporting events, concerts, plays and other events in which she participated. He was also devoted to his wife, Marie, supporting her career ambitions and personal interests. He was a proud new Papaw to his grandson, Pierce, and was looking forward to teaching him how to swim and fish. He also enjoyed vacations with his wife, daughter, and friends, particularly in Sunset Beach, NC.

Kevin was a gifted natural athlete, actively participating in sports including football, basketball, baseball, volleyball, golf, etc., throughout his life. His ability to pick-up any ball and immediately do talented things with it would annoy his older brother who had to practice for hours just to come close to Kevin’s innate skill level.    

One of Kevin’s many other talents was cooking. He and his wife would hold gatherings at their home for family and friends where Kevin would display his culinary skills. If he was ever asked to recreate an entrée, he would say that he doesn’t use recipes and never makes a dish the same way twice. He was truly loved and will be missed.

Kevin is survived by his wife of 37 years, Marie (Beier) Roof; his mother, Suzanne Roof; his daughter, Jacquelyn (Nicholas) Yeakle; a grandson, Pierce Yeakle; two brothers, E. Jeffrey (Susan) and Eric (Joan) Roof; and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Roof. He was preceded in death by his father, Erdman Roof, and his brother, Kreig Roof.

 A public viewing will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at Fairview Bethel Church of God, New Cumberland, PA with the funeral following at 11:00 AM.
