LCDR Jeffrey D. Ellison, US Coast Guard Retired, of Mechanicsburg, passed the bar on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at Select Specialty Hospital at UPMC Harrisburg Hospital.
Jeff was born April 10, 1944 in Newport, RI to the late Vaughn Albert and Lorraine Alsace (Dennis) Ellison. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Tina (Caretti) Ellison, and sister, Adrienne “Brooke” Ellison.
He is survived by his children, Lorraine A. Ellison (Jay Crone) of Mechanicsburg, Christopher A. Ellison (Lida) of Miami, FL, and Michael V. Ellison of Enola; grandchildren, Katie, Christopher, Matthew, and John Paul; nieces and nephews, Megan Hess (Dave Shiner), Josh and Sam Young, and Casey Parker (Jeff); and great-nephews, Chase, Carter, and Lucas.
Jeff joined the Coast Guard in 1962 after graduating from East Providence High School, RI. Duty Stations included Radioman on the Cutters Gresham and Yeaton and at the ComStas in Honolulu, San Francisco and in New Orleans where he was promoted to Chief Warrant Officer. He was a Radio School Instructor on Governors Island, NY and was the Central PA Recruiter out of Williamsport and Harrisburg. A second tour on Governors Island found him as the 3rd District Security Manager and the Atlantic Area Intel Officer where he was promoted to Lieutenant. In Miami he first served as the CO of ComSta Miami, and was then promoted to LCDR and served as the Chief of Tactical Intelligence for the National Narcotics Border Interdiction System(NNBIS) and at the Maritime Intelligence Center (MIC), Miami where he retired on January 1, 1993 after proudly serving his country for 31 years.
Jeff spent the next seventeen years working for Lawrence Chevrolet as a Salesperson and Dealer Trade/Inventory Manager. He was an avid golfer and bowler and enjoyed watching all types of sports. Jeff loved his family and friends, but especially loved his 4 cats Shorty, TJ, Boots and Freddie.
Visitation will be from 5pm until memorial services at 7pm Tuesday, April 2nd at Parthemore Funeral Home, New Cumberland. Interment services with military honors will be held at 10:30am Wednesday, April 3rd at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Hanover Twp.
