Linda Marie Mitchell, 76, of New Cumberland, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, in Harrisburg Hospital with her loving family at her side.

Linda was a retired Registered Nurse who used her career to serve many people. She worked many years at Harrisburg Hospital as an Emergency Room Nurse, Chaplain Assistant, and member of the Auxiliary. She then expanded her career into Hospice Nursing where she became the Care Coordinator of Hospice of Central PA for over 10 years. At this time, Linda was named PA Woman of the Year for her Outstanding Acts of Human Services. She had an endless calling to serve the homeless, where she created the first medical department at the Bethesda Mission in Harrisburg, PA. Later in life, Linda was a very active part of New Hope Ministries’ health services. She was an AIDS counselor and Nurse Instructor at Dauphin County Prison, and also a CPR instructor for the American Heart Association. Linda worked as a School Nurse at Wordsworth Academy, Daikon Youth Center, and Schaffner Youth Center. She was named Outstanding School Nurse by the Pennsylvania State Nursing Association. Linda also served as a nurse at Camp Yolijwa, Doubling Gap, PA for 42 years. She was also proud to serve as an Ombudsman in Cumberland County, PA.

Linda was born in Harrisburg, the daughter of the late Armer and Corrinne (Taylor) Platt, a graduate of Central Dauphin East High School, Harrisburg, and Saint Mary’s School of Nursing, Philadelphia.

She is survived by her children, Todd G. Mitchell and wife Lisa of Chantilly, VA, Timothy H. Mitchell of Mechanicsburg and Amy L. DeLuca of Mechanicsburg; eight grandchildren, Brielle M. Mitchell, Nathan T. Mitchell, Joshua S. Mitchell, Ryan T. Mitchell, Keely G. Mitchell, Sam M. DeLuca, Kate M. DeLuca, and Jack S. DeLuca; and her canine companion Molly.

In her youth, she enjoyed dancing to Motown music and won many dance contests. She was Head Majorette at Central Dauphin East High School and was chosen to cheer at the Big 33 Football Classic. Throughout life, her hobbies included ceramics, decorating her house, and planting flowers. She proudly received New Cumberland Garden of the Week many times. Her entire life she had an endless passion for animals, rescuing many pets. Later in life, she enjoyed volunteering and supporting Speranza Animal Shelter. Most of all, she loved her family and being around people. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother to many. Her favorite pastime was certainly watching all of her grandchildren and their friends play sports. She is well known on the Mechanicsburg Wildcat sidelines. She was a member of the First Church of God and spread her faith in Jesus by loving all, being grateful, and giving back.

A memorial service will be held at 12 pm on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, in New Cumberland First Church of God, 323 Reno Ave. New Cumberland, PA 17070. Visitation with the family will be from 11 am until the time of service on Tuesday in the church. There will be a celebration of life following the service at West Shore Country Club, Camp Hill PA from 1-4 pm.
