Lon C. Smith

November 1, 1952 — September 6, 2025

Camp Hill, PA

Lon C. Smith, 72, of Camp Hill, passed away at home on the morning of Saturday, September 6, 2025, with family by his side. Born on November 1, 1952, in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Lon C. Smith and Dorothy (Turruiviate) Gautier.

Lon proudly served in the U.S. Army before starting his painting career and then later in life becoming a truck driver. For decades, he worked as a regional courier with Service Express Inc., Harrisburg—a job he genuinely enjoyed, especially for the people he met along the way. Lon had a gift for making others laugh. Known for his animated expressions, a look alone could tell an entire story or make you laugh out loud.

He was a member of New Cumberland VFW Post 7415 and American Legion Post 974 in Fairview Township, where he loved the camaraderie as much as he enjoyed providing entertainment. Lon excelled at horseshoes and pool, and he was a lifelong (and die-hard) Cleveland Browns and Guardians fan.

Even as his health declined and his reliance on others grew, he maintained a positive attitude and did what he could to make those around him laugh. His family takes comfort in knowing that he’s reunited with the love of his life—his late wife, Carol.

Lon is survived by two daughters, Hollie Kline and Amy Pierce; a sister, Lula Yohe; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carol Wieseman Smith (d. 2017); a sister, Betty Adams; brother, Ken Smith; and a nephew and niece, Mike Miller and Kimberly Yohe.

A committal service will take place at 10AM on Thursday, September 25, 2025, in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Please also join the family for a Celebration of Life from 1-4PM on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at the New Cumberland VFW Post 7415.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Lon’s name to the American Cancer Society.
