LTC Donald G. Easton, U.S. Army (Ret.), 90, formerly of Camp Hill, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 9, 2025, at his residence. Born on August 1, 1934, in New York City, he was the son of the late George A. and Theresa E. (Seis) Easton.
Growing up in New York City, Don would meet his future wife, Beatrice (who goes by “Sue”), in 1951 when they were teenagers. He graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School in 1952 and would go on to earn a bachelor’s degree from St. Bonaventure University in 1956.
Don proudly served his country as a lieutenant colonel in the United States Army. His distinguished military career included tours in Vietnam (Bronze Star Medal) and Korea, as well as assignments in Germany and Japan. He retired from active duty in 1982.
Following his military service, Don continued his commitment to public service by working for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives on the House Appropriations Committee. He furthered his education by earning a master’s degree from Shippensburg University, and retired from the State Capitol in the mid-1990s.
He was a longtime member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in New Cumberland and actively involved in numerous military and civic organizations, including the Military Officers Association of America; American Legion State Headquarters of PA in Wormleysburg; D.A.V. Chapter #50 and American Legion Post 109 in Mechanicsburg; and as a charter member of the Museum of the U.S. Army at Ft. Belvoir, VA. He was also a past president of the U.S. Military Academy Parents Club.
Don and Sue made their home in Green Lane Farms, where they lived for over 50 years. He was an avid fisherman, especially in the Adirondacks or any ocean shoreline, and he and Sue loved traveling—taking cruises to Alaska and many other destinations. They were also accomplished dancers who shared a deep love of music.
Known for his sharp wit, colorful storytelling, passion for competitive Scrabble, Don did not suffer fools. He was fun, engaging, and left a lasting impression on those he encountered throughout his life. Don was deeply devoted to, and fiercely protective of, his wife and family. He was a man of faith.
Don is survived by his wife of 67 years, Beatrice "Sue" (Cunningham) Easton; children, Karen, Mark, John, and Laura; fourteen grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Easton.
