Manila S. Kreamer

July 6, 1925 — December 8, 2022

Manila S. Kreamer, 97, of Fairview Township, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 8, 2022 at her home. She was born on July 6, 1925 in Waynesboro, where she attended Waynesboro High School and would go on to work at the local sewing factory in Mont Alto, Franklin County. After marriage, she and her husband, Martin, a trained carpenter and construction superintendent, would move several places before settling in York County; together, the two built their own home. Manila was a homemaker for many years, but later began employment with Beaman’s, York County, and with Hills department store, where she managed the fabric section. After losing her husband, she transitioned to state government. She was responsible for processing motorboat licenses, retiring from the PA Fish & Boat Commission, Harrisburg.

Raised by her widowed mother, Manila quickly became an independent young lady. She and her younger brother would play guitar and sing together for enjoyment, and classic Country & Western music always held a soft spot in her heart. She was a longtime member of Lewisberry United Methodist Church and was active in the congregation’s Women’s Circle. She was a proud lifelong Democrat, and in her younger days, enjoyed canning fruits and vegetables. Manila was a lover of all animals, but she became quite proficient in identifying birds native to this area. Over the years, she developed the ability to know each bird by its particular song.

Surviving Manila is her daughter, Dr. Carolyn L. Kreamer of Lewisberry; a step daughter, Bonnie Montague of Shippensburg, and Bonnie’s daughter, Nancy; nieces and nephews, Robert Newcomer, Dorothy “Dottie” Newcomer, Timothy Strausner, Allen Strausner; and a dedicated caretaker and friend, Carolyn Anderson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin N. Kreamer; mother, Grace Strausner; three brothers and two sisters, Harry Strausner, Gilson Strausner, C. Ed Strausner, Livy Strausner, and Ruth Newcomer; and a niece, Judy Reed.

A public viewing will be held from 10-11AM on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at Lewisberry United Methodist Church, Lewisberry, with a funeral service beginning at 11AM. At 2:30PM that afternoon, friends and family are invited to attend Manila’s committal service at Antietam Church Cemetery, 10610 Wayne Hwy., Waynesboro, PA 17268.
