Marcia G. Sites

d. February 26, 2023

Marcia G. Sites, 83, formerly of Lower Allen Township passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2023, at Ephrata Manor, Ephrata, PA. Marcia was born and raised in Harrisburg to Harry and Iola Goudy. Throughout her life, she remained close to her only and older sister, Jane. The sisters shared a lifelong love of piano playing thanks to their mother, who taught her girls how to play. Their life on Allison Hill was filled with lots of outdoor play where Marcia developed a love of roller skating down and around Dunkle Street. Marcia met the love of her life, future husband, Leroy K. Sites, at the Rainbow Roller Rink on the Carlisle Pike. Marcia and Leroy won numerous roller skating dance competitions, in both local and regional divisions. They were married in 1967 and lived a comfortable life, working and caring for their garden and cats. The happy couple made music together with Leroy playing the mandolin and Marcia, the piano.

Marcia and Leroy were members of Mechanicsburg Church of God, where Marcia played the piano for Sunday School. After becoming a widow in 1991, Marcia joined Zion Lutheran Church in Etters, to be close to her sister. At Zion, Marcia played the piano for 3 children’s choirs, vacation bible school and was a member of the choir. Marcia joined Market Square Presbyterian Church in 2001, where she attended services faithfully.

Marcia became a telephone operator for the Bell of Pennsylvania at the age of 22, after attending Messiah College. Her kind and distinctive voice made her effective as an operator and provided her the opportunity to be promoted into management with the newly created Verizon Communications. Marcia’s easy going and friendly demeanor was consistently shown to all with whom she came into contact. She was loved by her family members, caregivers, friends and neighbors. Marcia’s unassuming and appreciative nature helped her adjust when she was no longer able to live independently. Many visits to Juniper Village in Mount Joy, resulted in laughter and silliness as the sisters reminisced about happy times of the past. Her sister remained close to her throughout her declining years.

Marcia enjoyed watching Dancing with the Stars, which reminded her of the joyful experiences on the roller rink dance floor. Marcia was a voracious reader; her library was diverse and impressive.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy K. Sites, step-son, Leroy K. Sites Jr. and step-daughter, Donna Boyd. Marcia is survived by her sister, Jane G. Juarez Shaffer, Ephrata, nieces, Lisa Steffen (David) and Maureen Juarez, step-daughter, Elva Cartwright, step-grandson, David Laman, step-granddaughters Sheila Sites, Shayne Sites, and Staria Sites Reisinger, Deborah Eppley (James), Kimberly Vogelsong (Michael), three great nephews, one great niece, numerous step-great and great-great grandchildren.
