Marsha McHenry

November 22, 1946 — April 27, 2024

Camp Hill

Marsha Miriam Tamke McHenry of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully, yet unexpectedly, on April 27, 2024. Her family is profoundly saddened.

Marsha was born in Richmond, Virginia, on November 22, 1946, to Esther Dowdell and Tom Minor. She was the eldest of Esther’s two children and is survived by her brother David Tamke.

Marsha married her beloved John Jay McHenry on May 24, 1975. She is survived by their son, Matthew Blair McHenry and his delightful daughter, Isabella Marie McHenry, sister-in-law Irene McHenry, brother-in-law Randy Granger, nephew Michael Koehler and his family – Lauren, Charles, Stella, nephews Fletcher and Gordon Granger, and niece Willa Granger. Marsha was a loving wife, mother, and “Mimi” to her granddaughter. Marsha was an abundantly creative, talented human being with a strong spirit, keen sense of humor, and a deep love for beauty in all forms. Her family describes her as a vivacious, playful, and generous soul.

Marsha graduated from Selinsgrove High School and Susquehanna University where she studied fine arts and formed lifelong friendships. She was a gifted artist working in oils, watercolors, calligraphy, and fabric. Marsha was big hearted and vibrant. She had immense passion for her family, her friends, animals, birds, and the whole natural world.

Her departure comes as a shock and the loss is felt deeply by her entire family and countless friends who loved her. The family deeply appreciates your support during this difficult time and asks that in lieu of flowers, you could make contributions in Marsha’s memory to The Cornell Lab of Ornithology at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, which studies birds and other wildlife.   A Celebration of Marsha’s life will be held at 11:30 on Saturday, May 18th at the Harrisburg Quaker meetinghouse and later in the summer in Benton, Pennsylvania.
