Nance N. Woodward

d. November 4, 2023

Camp Hill, PA

Nance N. Woodward, of Round Hill, VA, and formerly of Camp Hill, PA, passed away Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023, in her home.

She was a retired editor with The Patriot-News and a graduate of John Harris High School class of 1964, Harrisburg.

She was passionate about animals and a tireless and dedicated advocate for abused and unwanted dogs. She was an integral part of several dog rescue networks across the country.

In addition, she served as a counselor, friend and confidant to hundreds of other widows she met in an online grief group, which she was involved in and helped manage for many years. Here she connected with and supported other women who had also lost their spouses.

During her 35 years at the Patriot-News and Penn Live, she modernized what had traditionally been referred to as the "women's section" into a relevant, highly read daily Living section. She was a gifted writer and award-winning editor, recognized for her work throughout the industry.

Most of all, she was devoted to, and loved spending time with, her daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren and granddogs.

Nance cheered on the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Philadelphia Phillies, and enjoyed gardening, eating Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and reading.

She was born in Manhattan, NY, to the late Harold P. Newhouse and Adeline (Frishberg) Newhouse. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 46 years, Robert Woodward.

She is survived by her daughter, Melissa W. Malacarne and her husband Art of Loudoun County, VA, and three grandchildren, Andrew, Molly, and Benjamin.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2023 at Parthemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, New Cumberland. Visitation with family and friends will be one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. A luncheon will follow at Nicks 114 Café in New Cumberland. All family and friends are welcome to attend.
