Nancy Whitney Burke, 100 years of age, residing in Glen Mills, PA, formerly of Camp Hill, PA, peacefully passed away on November 23, 2025. Born on July 25, 1925, in Scranton, PA, to the late Neil L. and Doris (Clark) Whitney, Nancy was known for her sharp wit, steady leadership, and remarkable ability to bring people together wherever she went.
In 1946, she married Francis X. Burke, Jr., and together they raised five children and built a life rooted in community service and friendship. Nancy spent most of her years in the Camp Hill area, cultivating a lively circle of friends who kept her days full. Even after Frank’s passing in 1991, she remained deeply engaged in her community, volunteering for the Cerebral Palsy Society, Holy Spirit Hospital, and various political fundraising efforts. She also was an active parishioner of St. Theresa Catholic Church in New Cumberland, PA.
Nancy loved to entertain, and her gatherings were always events not to be missed—lively with her quick humor, thoughtful and well‑informed conversation, and her gift for making everyone feel comfortable. That infectious spirit followed her into her later years, when she moved to Maris Grove Senior Living in Glen Mills where she soon was recognized as a championship-level bridge player, admired for her sharp mind, strategy and competitive skills.
Well into her 90's, Nancy was traveling weekly on Tuesdays to Dupont Country Club in Wilmington, DE to challenge new friends, earning respect from partners and opponents alike.
Nancy also loved regular rounds of golf and was a longtime member of the Harrisburg and West Shore Country Clubs as well as the Country Club of Scranton. She also was one of the original organizers of the women's league at Valley Green Golf Course in Etters, PA which after 40+ years remains active today.
Professionally, Nancy served the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania with dedication—first at the Legislative Reference Bureau and later at the Pennsylvania Senate Library.
Nancy's charm, grace, positive attitude and her commitment to service continued to be a source of strength and warmth for all who enjoyed her company. She remained the heart of her social circles throughout her life.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Francis X. Burke Jr., and by her son, William (Billy) M. Burke, who passed away in 2024.
She is survived by her children: Nancy Burke Sanow (Arnold) of Ashburn, VA; Carol Burke Logan of Rehoboth Beach, DE; Frank X. Burke III (Kate) of Bryn Mawr, PA; and Janet Burke of Anaconda, MT. She also leaves behind her sister‑in‑law, Betty Phillips Whitney of Clarks Summit; six grandchildren—Heather Logan, Erin Ford (Chris), Sarah Huff, Francis X. Burke IV, Stephen Sanow, and Chandler Burke; four great‑grandchildren—Taylor Logan, Logan Ford, Mackenzie Logan, and Hailee Huff; a great‑great‑granddaughter—Harlow Maier; and several nieces and nephews.
