Romaine Patricia "Pat" Bitting, 96, of Cabot, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at Concordia at Cabot in Cabot, PA. She was born on October 22, 1927, to the late Carmon Chester and Nina McVey (Delancey) Stroup in Millerstown, PA. Pat graduated from Millerstown High School in 1945 and from the Harrisburg Hospital School of Nursing on June 17, 1948. She married the late Mark Cleveland Bitting Jr. on October 1, 1948, and together had two sons. She was a member of the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps and worked as a nurse before working with her husband at Mark C. Bitting, Inc., a two-way radio communications business in New Cumberland, PA, and Summit Communications, Inc., in Fairview Twp. In their retirement, she and her husband traveled the world together. Pat loved to spend time with her family, research family genealogy, collect antiques, and quilt. She was well-known for her chicken pot pie, sandtart cookies, and chocolate cake. She will be remembered for her strong faith, her near-perfect memory, her sharp sense of humor, and her indomitable spirit. She was a member of the Harrisburg Hospital Nurses Alumni Association; the Perry Historians; the Huguenot Society of Pennsylvania, Jean Ribault Chapter; past treasurer and member of the Daughters of American Colonists, Cymry Chapter; and a lifetime member of the National and Pennsylvania Daughters of the American Revolution Society, Cumberland County Chapter and Cameo Society.
She is survived by her son, John S. Bitting and wife Beth (Barlow) of Cabot, PA; daughter-in-law Pamela E. (Reisser) Bitting of Etters, PA; four granddaughters, Amy (Bitting) Kelly and husband Matthew of South Sterling, PA, Kristy Bitting and fiancé Dennis Donahoe of New Cumberland, PA, Anna Bitting and husband David Crisostomo of Auburn, AL, and Emily Bitting-Jha and husband Amritas Jha of Pittsburgh, PA; and two great-grandsons, David Kelly and Michael Kelly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mark C. Bitting, Jr., her son Mark C. Bitting, III, her sister Violet "Dee" McVey (Turnbaugh) Stroup, her brother Harry D. Stroup, and her brother Ray T. Stroup.
A graveside service will be held at Millerstown Riverview Cemetery, in Millerstown, on Friday, June 7, at 1 PM with Pastor Fred Rudy officiating. A time of fellowship will be held following the service at Millerstown United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot, PA or Millerstown United Methodist Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Parthemore Funeral Home.
