Robert Howard Whitlock, O.D., 63, of Mechanicsburg, died Saturday, August 8, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family.
Bob was a 1981 graduate of The Hill School in Pottstown and a 1985 graduate of Gettysburg College, where he became a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He received his Doctorate of Optometry in 1990 from the New England College of Optometry in Boston. A member of the Pennsylvania Optometric Association, Bob was an independent Doctor of Optometry with Pearle Vision Center for more than 25 years.
Bob had a curious mind and a love for learning and discovery. He enjoyed scuba diving, photography, technology, and traveling. He especially loved exploring new places and experiencing different cultures, with memorable trips to Egypt and Jerusalem and, most recently, Costa Rica. He enjoyed sharing these experiences with the people he loved and creating memories along the way. Above all, Bob treasured his friends and family and the time spent with those he loved.
He will be remembered for his curiosity, his love of adventure, his friendships, and the many wonderful memories he created with those around him.
Bob was born February 8, 1963, in Harrisburg. He was preceded in death by his father, William Kyle Whitlock.
He is survived by his partner of 27 years, Bryan Thomas of Mechanicsburg; his mother, Elizabeth Ann Whitlock of Mechanicsburg; his brothers, William “Bill” Kyle Whitlock, Jr. (Sherry) of Carlisle and J. Bradley Whitlock (Jennifer) of Mechanicsburg; his nephews and nieces, William Kyle Whitlock, III, Caitlin Trinidad, Karlee Whitlock, and Trevor Whitlock; and his grandnephew, Miles.
Bob’s life was deeply enriched by the love of his family and friends. He and Bryan shared 27 years together, building a life filled with love, companionship, laughter, adventures, travel, and countless memories. Bob will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until a Celebration of Bob’s Life at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 15, at Parthemore Funeral Home in New Cumberland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
