Roger Michael Shonosky

September 10, 1954 — March 16, 2026

New Cumberland

Roger Michael Shonosky, 71, of New Cumberland, PA, passed away March 16, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Jeanne Shonosky, his brother, Steven Shonosky, and his brother-in-law, Marty Echentile.

He is survived by his children, Holly Davis (John) of Atlanta, GA and Thomas Shonosky (Megan) of Washington, D.C., and grandchildren Elise, John, Hank and Elizabeth. He also leaves two sisters, Terry Echentile of Winsted, CT and her children, Kalynn Deedy and Tyson Echentile; and Barbara Barber (Steven) of Carlisle, PA, and their children, Kevin Barber and Christopher Barber.

Roger was born on September 10, 1954 in Trenton, NJ, and he grew up in Norwich, NY, where he graduated from Norwich H.S. in 1972. He was a consummate athlete with honors too numerous to list, including seven varsity letters in three sports in high school. He was heavily recruited for college football, choosing UNC-Chapel Hill where he was voted Best Defensive Lineman in 1975, leading the team with 16 tackles behind the line of scrimmage. An injury ended his pro prospects, but he continued to terrorize opposing players on the rugby pitch in later years, in Wilmington, NC where he worked in construction and finished carpentry. He was inducted into the Norwich H.S. Sports Hall of Fame in 2016.

Roger had a quick wit and could always make you laugh, and he had a tremendous work ethic. The one thing he never did, either on the playing field or in life, was give up. Godspeed—we will remember you.
