Ronald E. Heisey, 86, formerly of New Cumberland and Harrisburg, passed away on Friday, January 5, 2024 at Arden Courts, Harrisburg. He was born on December 17, 1937 in Harrisburg, PA to the late Jacob and Rhoda Anna (Walters) Heisey.
Growing up in Harrisburg, Ron went to John Harris High School before serving his country in the U.S. Air Force. He retired from Auto Seat Cover Company, Harrisburg, where he had worked for 50+ years. Also, he had his own Custom Engineering business in New Cumberland as well, specializing in VW and MG customization. Ron was very handy and there wasn’t much he couldn’t fix.
His passion was racing the “Gold” #56 Super Sportsman on the Central PA dirt track circuit, primarily racing at Silver Springs and other local speedways. He was known as “Mr. Consistency” to his fans at the track. Officially retiring in 1985 after 35+ years of racing to support two of his son’s racing careers.
In addition, after his racing career ended, he spent time with family, fishing and enjoying his pontoon boat up at Raystown Lake. For a time, he dabbled in the candle making business and attended many craft shows.
You could always count on Ron to have a witty comment, but he had a knack for making others feel comfortable. While he loved his kids, he had a special affection for his grand and great-grandkids.
Surviving Ron are his daughters, Cynthia Berkoski (Samuel) of Marysville and Brenda L. Wasielewski (Tim) of Palmyra; a son, Scott D. Heisey (Karen) of Camp Hill; daughter-in-law, Tricia Heisey of Harrisburg; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren (with two more on the way); brother, Robert Heisey of Newport; sister-in-law, Charlene Williams (Richard) of Jacksonville, FL; nephew, Kenny Gordon (Theresa); and his former wife and lifetime friend, Darla (Weiser) Heisey of Mechanicsburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Michael E. Berkoski and Ronald A. Heisey; and wife, Virginia Heisey.
