Ruth Naomi Zimmerman

January 17, 1934 — April 1, 2024

Mechanicsburg, PA

Ruth Naomi Zimmerman, 90, formerly of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2024 at UPMC West Shore Hospital, Hampden Township, with her daughter and son-in-law by her side. She was the daughter of the late Harvey and Ava (Kuntzleman) Bressler, born on January 17, 1934 in Sheridan, Tower City, PA.

Growing up in Schuylkill County, she would graduate from Porter Township High School in the early 1950s and go on to nursing school. With a change of heart regarding her career, she would begin employment with the PA Commonwealth. After 32 years, she would retire as a secretary from the PA Department of Labor & Industry – Bureau of Workers Compensation.

Ruth had a fun sense of humor, and she was a talented artist. She took pride in creating her own greeting cards for family and friends, and when her husband, Ray, was living, the two enjoyed square dancing and traveling—especially in their motorhome. She journaled every day, and she was a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Shiremanstown. Ruth found pleasure in solving jigsaw puzzles, playing Bingo, crafting, watching Westerns, and rooting for her beloved Pittsburgh Steelers. She spent her last years at Celebration Villa, Dillsburg.

Surviving are her two children, V. Alan Myer, formerly of Annville, and Sandra L. Eakin (husband, Douglas) of Dillsburg; grandchildren, Adam Lantz (wife, Monica) and Jessica Watson (husband, Matt); step-granddaughter, Jodi Major; six great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Raymond K. Zimmerman; and a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Helen Bressler.

A funeral service will be held at 3PM on Saturday, April 6, 2024 in Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland, with a viewing hour from 2PM until services commence. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Ruth’s name to either the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area, 7790 Grayson Road, Harrisburg, PA 1711, or the Helen O. Krause Animal Foundation, 813 South Baltimore Street, Dillsburg, PA 17019.
