Ryan Alexander Patete

Born on August 24, 2002, in Philadelphia, PA, Ryan Alexander Patete grew up in the city before more recently making his home in Mechanicsburg. Ryan was a loving son, brother, grandson, friend, and adventurer whose presence had a way of making those around him feel seen, valued, and loved.

From the very beginning, Ryan was a happy and loving child with a natural curiosity about the world. Enrolled in the gifted program, he loved telling stories, making friends wherever he went, and sharing his excitement with others. Dinosaurs and sharks fascinated him, and his love for animals began early and never faded. Even during his time in the military, his compassion extended to fostering possums and raccoons.

Ryan attended W.B. Saul High School of Agricultural Sciences, where he was a member of the horse club. His appreciation for animals and the outdoors grew into a lifelong love of nature and adventure. He found peace outside and especially enjoyed exploring with his family, creating memories and simply being surrounded by the people who meant the most to him.

Ryan went on to enlist in the military, specializing in communications, more formally known as transmission system operator, and ultimately achieving the rank of corporal. During his service, he scored a 221 on his rifle qualification, earning a sharpshooter marksmanship award. His accomplishments reflected the determination and dedication he brought to whatever he set his mind to.

That work ethic stayed with Ryan after his service. He took tremendous pride in what he did and genuinely loved his job. After only one month, he earned a promotion—a testament to the effort, passion, and character that others quickly recognized in him.

Away from work, Ryan had no shortage of interests. He had a passion for cars and spent countless hours working on them and learning everything he could. He also had an artistic side and a deep connection to music, which spoke to him in a way few things could. He loved Halloween and enjoyed drawing, often sketching creatures and even plans for the home he hoped to have one day—a small glimpse into the future he envisioned for himself.

More than anything, though, Ryan loved his family. As the oldest brother, he naturally became a protector, at times acting more like a dad than a big brother. He looked out for his brothers, guided them, and made certain they knew how deeply they were loved. Ryan was especially himself and happiest when he was with his family; whether they were working on cars together, exploring outdoors, listening to music, heading off on an adventure, or doing nothing particularly special at all. Being together was what mattered.

That same love extended to the many people Ryan encountered throughout his life. He could walk into a room and leave with a new friend, tell a story that kept everyone listening, and, with his humor and warmth, charm the socks off just about anyone. He had a genuine gift for making people feel special.

Ryan Alexander Patete passed away on August 29, 2026, just days after his 24th birthday. In far too short a life, he gave those who loved him so much to remember: his enormous heart, his curiosity and adventurous spirit, his stories and humor, his fierce love for his family, and the way he made people feel simply by being himself.

He was a son, a brother, a friend, a protector, and so much more than words could ever adequately capture. Ryan was deeply loved in life, will be endlessly missed, and will forever remain a part of those fortunate enough to have known and loved him.

Ryan leaves behind his mother and papi, Julia Runyon-Abdelrahman and Hesham Abdelrahman of Mechanicsburg; his brothers, Saiphe, Elhamie, Kareem, Tristan, and Gio; his beloved Delia; and a large extended family and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Elliot Ryan Patete (d. 2021). His memory will be kept alive by all who knew and loved him.

A public visitation will be held from 11AM until a service begins at 12PM on Friday, September 4, 2026, at Parthemore Funeral Home, New Cumberland. A procession will then depart for a 1:30PM graveside service in Paxtang Cemetery, Harrisburg, where full military honors will be rendered.
