Scott Alan Taylor

May 19, 1962 — August 9, 2023

Etters, PA

Scott Alan Taylor, 61, of Etters, passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at his home. He was the son of Stuart Taylor and the late Judith (Wilson) Cavanaugh, born on May 19, 1962 in Lewistown.

Growing up in Mifflin County, Scott would play baseball and football in his youth, graduating from Lewiston Area High School (Class of 1980) before continuing his education at Penn State University. He would go on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy, where he was assigned to the Naval Personnel Command, Washington, DC, handling clerical work as a yeoman. Between his schooling and military service, he would marry the love of his life, Mary Jane, and the two would begin a family together. After giving five years to his country, he returned to Lewistown, commuting every day to his job at Continental Medical Systems, Mechanicsburg, before he and his family settled in Northern York County. He would go on to work at Balance Care Corporation and then Select Medical, where he was a project coordinator.

Scott had a great sense of humor, often putting others at ease with his lightheartedness. He was a member of the American Legion Post 143, New Cumberland, where he regularly shot pool and enjoyed the company of others. A lifelong fisherman, he enjoyed being outdoors. He passed his love of the outdoors on to his two daughters, spending time at their camp as they grew up. Scott was an animal lover and dogs were a constant in the Taylor residence. He thoroughly enjoyed listening to music all his life. In fact, he was known to break out his extensive vinyl collection regularly, listening to new and old music. In more recent years, Scott embraced the role of “Pappy,” spending as much time with his grandkids as humanly possible.

Surviving Scott is his wife of 38 years, Mary Jane (Sheaffer) Taylor; daughters, Chelsey Chataginer of Etters and Emily Eberly (Brad) of Manchester; grandchildren, Elijah Chataginer, Kaelynn Eberly, Lydon Eberly, Hayden Chataginer, Cambree Chataginer and Mason Chataginer; three sisters, Christi Kline, Stephanie Logan and Courtney Cavanaugh; and a brother, Brian Taylor.

A time to visit with Scott’s family will be held from 2-4PM on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland.
