Sothiphun "Susie" Moore

April 23, 1941 — February 12, 2024

New Cumberland, PA

Sothiphun “Susie” Moore, 82, of New Cumberland and originally of Nong Khai, Thailand, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2024 at home. The daughter of the late Tup and Pis Mahasiripun, she was born on April 23, 1941.

Born and raised in Thailand, she attended and graduated from the prestigious all-girls school, Satreewittaya, Bankok. Extremely bright, she would take up four languages and also model shortly after her schooling. She then went on to work with the US Army where she met and fell in love with her husband of 55 years, Tom, and the two would travel the world, following his military service from Thailand to Texas, to Okinawa, to New Jersey, and then Germany, before finally settling back here in the States.

They would raise their daughter together in Fairview Township, and Susie would go on to work at the local Hardee’s, Days Inn, and the former New Cumberland Army Depot. She would stop working when her grandchildren were born, adamant that they would never need a babysitter outside the family. She had a special bond with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, keeping in daily contact, whether it was in-person visits or FaceTime sessions on the phone.

Susie was an avid tennis, golf and baseball fanatic, often staying up through the early hours of the morning if an overseas event or tournament was televised. If she wasn’t up watching sports, she was keeping in contact with her family back in Thailand. Bowling and Bingo were two of her favorite pastimes, but scratch-off lottery tickets kept her content in between. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she felt a strong connection to both her Buddhist faith, and to those whom she met while attending temple.

Surviving Susie is her husband and best friend, Thomas G. Moore; daughter, Mary Ann Lucas (Gregory) of Camp Hill; grandchildren, Kelsey Latchaw (Joe), Jamin Vermeulen (Jacey Smith), and Joki and Kamden Lucas; great-grandchildren, Joe Joe, Benji, Naomi, Greyson, and Ashton; five siblings in Thailand; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Patricia Russell and Jimmy Moore; and her many nieces and nephews (of whom she was very proud).

Family will greet guests from 3PM until services begin at 3:30PM on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Susie’s name to the Autism Society of Greater Harrisburg, P.O. Box 101, Enola, PA 17025.
