Susan G. Laird

Susan G. Laird, 77, of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, passed away on March 20, 2026. She was born December 8, 1948, in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania area, the daughter of Theodore and Harriet Groninger.

Susan was the beloved wife of the late Scott Laird, her husband of 49 years, who preceded her in death in September 2016. She is survived by her son Scott of Mechanicsburg; her son Stephen and his wife Sarah of East Montpelier, Vermont; and her cherished granddaughter, Rosie. She is also survived by her sister, Becky Bakker.

Susan dedicated her career to children and families. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Speech/Language Pathology and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Towson State University, and a Master's Degree in Guidance Counseling from Millersville University. She went on to serve as a counselor at St. Theresa School and worked for the Capital Area Intermediate Unit as a behavior specialist in the Youth Advocate Program, where she worked with autistic children and their families for many years.

Susan loved the water. She and Scott spent many years sailing on the Chesapeake Bay, a passion she carried with her throughout her life. In her later years, she found great joy in spending time with her sons, Scott and Steve, and playing with her granddaughter Rosie.

In keeping with her wishes, Susan was cremated by Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Details will be announced when available. Her ashes will be scattered in the ocean off the Maine coast.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Friends of the Simpson Public Library in Mechanicsburg, PA.
