Susan Harriet Purvis

Susan Harriet Purvis, nee Hollis, 71, of Greenville, SC, was called to her heavenly father Thursday, June 8, 2023 in Bayamón, PR.  She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who dedicated her life to the service of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and to her family to include numerous international young men and women whom she “adopted” over her many years of glorious service. As a homemaker and dedicated mother, she homeschooled all four of her children and prepared them for their many educational achievements all while supporting her loving husband Melvin, to whom she was married for over fifty years and with whom in 1985 she moved the family to serve as missionaries in Chile. For forty years she and her husband served their Lord in Chile, Alabama, and most recently at Puerto Rico Baptist College in Bayamon P.R. where she had a direct impact on the spiritual lives of students from all over the world. Susan was a shining example of southern comfort food cooking who introduced people from all over the world to the joys of butterbeans, cornbread and fried chicken. She was an avid reader who also enjoyed gardening, nurturing hummingbirds, and word puzzles.

She was born July 12, 1951 in Birmingham, AL to the late Charles Edward and Clarice (Parker) Hollis.

She is survived by her husband, Melvin William Purvis; four children, John Purvis (Michelle), Rebekah Clark (Chris), Daniel Purvis, and David Purvis (Samantha); and seven grandchildren, Natalie, Vivian, Ethan, Brandon, Jason, Ashley, and Connor.

Visitation will be from 11am until funeral services at noon Tuesday, June 20th at Parthemore Funeral Home, New Cumberland.  Interment services will follow at 2:30pm in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Hanover Twp.
