Vernelia G. (Barr) Recupero, 79, of Dillsburg, passed away on Friday, January 5, 2024 at Penn State Holy Spirit Medical Center, Camp Hill, with her family by her side. Born on March 3, 1944 in Clymer, PA, she was the daughter of the late William and Beatrice (Weston) Barr.
A 1962 graduate of Purchase Line High School, Indiana County, she would meet a young man while waitressing, and the rest of was history. She and Jim would marry, and then in the early-1970s, relocate to Dillsburg where they raised their family. Vern worked at Sears in the Capital City Mall once her children were in school, and she then volunteered for over 20 years at New Hope Ministries in Dillsburg.
Vern had a green thumb and an eye for creativity. She maintained beautiful flower beds and indoor plants, and she was crafty, creating all kinds of unique household decorations. She was also an excellent sewer, making Halloween costumes for her kids. She loved playing the piano and organ and made an awesome pineapple upside down cake.
Vern looked forward to family vacations in Wildwood, NJ, attending car shows in Hershey with Jim, and going out to eat with friends and family.
One of nine children, and right in the middle, Vern could be feisty, yet sensitive, and she would make it a point to put family first in life. She was a woman of faith, attending several churches in the area throughout the years, and she loved her four beautiful granddogs.
Surviving is her husband of 58 years, James Recupero, Jr. of Dillsburg; sons, Bruce Recupero of Pittsburgh, and Frank Recupero (Cindy) of New Cumberland; siblings, Greta Meece of Louisville, KY, Richard Barr of Strongstown, Beula Wolf of Indiana, and Frank Barr of Clymer; several nieces and nephews; and a special great-nephew and niece, Eli and Audrey, to whom she was "Nana." In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Elmer Barr; and two sisters, Rozella Emigh and Nancy Brocious.
A public funeral will be held at 4PM on Friday, January 12, 2024 at Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland. A visitation will take place from 3PM until services begin in the funeral home. Interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
Flowers are welcome, or please consider donating in Vern's name to New Hope Ministries, 99 W Church Street, Dillsburg, PA 17019.
