Virginia B. Denison, 91, of Mechanicsburg, PA, passed away with her family by her side on Sunday, August 31, 2025. Born on February 1, 1934, in Emporia, VA, she was the daughter of the late Murphy and Bessie (Wilson) Braswell.
Ginny was a proud graduate of Emporia High School’s Class of 1951 and would go on to pursue a career in secretarial work. She started at Petersburg General Hospital before joining the U.S. Army Quartermaster School at Fort Lee, where she would meet her future husband, Bill. She retired after more than a decade of service as a secretary.
Ginny and Bill settled in Dillsburg in the early 1980s after years of traveling the globe during Bill’s military career. Even in retirement, the couple’s love of travel continued, taking them across the Midwest and western coast of the United States—landscapes Ginny loved.
A longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Camp Hill, Ginny was known for her quiet but witty personality. Though unassuming at first glance, she was sharp and spirited—traits that endeared her to those who knew her best. She made friends easily, and this proved to be true even in her later years, as all that came to know Ginny shared memories of her kindness, ability to listen and thoughtfulness.
She found joy in reading, puzzle books, crime shows, eating out and a cold Diet Pepsi. More than anything, she treasured time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She expressed her pride in Grayson and Emma to anyone who would listen. To her loved ones, she was a cornerstone, and she will be deeply missed. Her absence creates a lasting void in the hearts of those who knew her best.
Surviving Ginny is her beloved daughter, Debra D. Cantor and son-in-law Scott of Mechanicsburg; grandchildren, Grayson Cantor and Emma Cantor; George Braswell and Earl Braswell; her sister-in-law, Geraldine "Gerry" Denison; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Denison; and her sister, Joyce Anderson.
A public visitation will be held from 10AM until funeral services begin at 11AM on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Camp Hill. The burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family in Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Ginny’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project or to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank.
