“I am being trusted with a family’s loved one, which is the highest honor.”

A life dedicated to service defines Ron Sprout, who has been a valued Funeral Director Assistant at Parthemore Funeral Home for the past 12 years. This role has been a highlight of his 55-year career, allowing him to continue his lifelong commitment to helping others.

Before joining the Parthemore team, Ron retired from an impressive 37-year career at the Defense Depot Susquehanna (DDSP), where he served as a leader in the motor pool, overseeing truck operations. Prior to his time at the Depot, Ron worked for the United States Postal Service and served two years in the Marines, further exemplifying his dedication to service.

At Parthemore, Ron plays a vital role in supporting the licensed funeral directors, assisting with everything from flower deliveries to funeral services. However, the aspect of his work that he finds most meaningful is serving families when their loved one dies at home.

“I am being trusted with a family’s loved one, which is the highest honor,” Ron shares. “I imagine how I’d like my own family to be treated – with dignity and respect. There is no better place to make an impact on someone than during this time. I do not take this responsibility lightly.”

Ron’s journey to Parthemore was serendipitous. His daughter once babysat for Bruce Parthemore who was a neighbor for many years. As Ron approached retirement, he expressed a desire to stay active and continue working in a meaningful way. With encouragement from Bruce, a friend from church, and even his pastor, Ron found his next calling at Parthemore Funeral Home.

“Helping people is what I do,” Ron says. “When I was getting ready to retire, I wanted something meaningful to do. I love this job and have been fortunate in my career to always do something I love.”

Steve Parthemore, Funeral Director, reflects on Ron’s impact:  "Ron is an invaluable member of our team, and we deeply appreciate his dedication to the families we serve. Time and again, families express their gratitude for Ron's compassion and professionalism during such difficult moments. His genuine care leaves a lasting impression, and we are truly fortunate to have him as part of our team."

Outside of work, Ron enjoys spending time by the ocean, whether it’s the beaches of Maryland, Delaware or Florida. An avid surf fisherman, he reels in everything from sharks and rays to stripers. Ron is also a proud “Harley guy” and still takes his 20-year-old Harley out for a ride every now and then.

This fall, Ron and his wife, D’Anna, celebrate 55 years of marriage. Together, they have one daughter, a son-in-law, one granddaughter, and three beloved “grand-dogs.” The couple has called the New Cumberland area home for the past 50 years.

Ron’s dedication to service, both in his career and personal life, continues to make a lasting impact on the families he serves and the Parthemore team.
